Life at Babban Gona

Financial Controller
“Working at BG will Transform You and Allow You Build a Legacy of Impact Your Way“
For most of my 15-year career in finance, my world was defined by numbers on a spreadsheet, assets, liabilities, profit or loss. It was a world of precision and logic. But I always wondered, what is the true return on investment? I found the answer here, at Babban Gona. I learned that a well-structured debt facility could do more than just sit on a balance sheet; it could rewrite the future for families. I’m here to tell you that your work can do the same. Working at Babban Gona will transform you and allow you to build a legacy of impact – your way!
My title is Financial Controller, but my real job is to serve as a steward of our farmers’ dreams. When my team successfully negotiates a multi-million dollar financing deal with an international institution, I don’t just see a new entry in our accounting system. I see thousands of smallholder farmers gaining access to high-quality seeds and fertilizer for the very first time. When we refine our inventory management processes, using technology to protect every single bag of grain, we aren’t just managing stock. We are safeguarding the harvest that represents a family’s entire year of hard work, their children’s school fees, and their path out of poverty. That is a fulfilment you won’t find on any financial statement.
Our model is revolutionary because it is elegantly simple. We address the four critical barriers that have kept Nigerian farmers from reaching their potential: the lack of access to affordable credit, the scarcity of quality agricultural inputs, the gap in modern agronomic knowledge, and the challenge of accessing premium markets. By solving these problems as an integrated system, the results have been staggering. We have cumulatively supported over 500,000 farmers in our network to, on average, double their crop yields and, most importantly, double their net income.
But the transformation we create doesn’t stop in the fields. It happens within our own team. Before I joined Babban Gona, I was a regular accountant, skilled at reporting on what had already happened. This organization transformed me into a thoroughbred finance professional with a problem-solving mentality, focused on building what comes next. Our culture is built for people who want to create, not just execute. It is a highly flexible, meritocratic environment where 90% of the work is done remotely. Here, your voice matters. Creative solutions to unique, complex challenges aren’t just welcomed; they are expected. Management gives you the autonomy to innovate and the support to turn your vision into reality.
As we stand on the cusp of our next major expansion, we are not just looking to fill positions. We are looking for partners in our mission. We are searching for exceptional professionals who possess a deep-seated “ownership mindset.” We need people who see a problem and feel a personal responsibility to solve it, who are driven by purpose, and who are ready to apply their world-class skills to one of the most important challenges of our time.
