Shivani Garg Patel
Shivani Garg Patel is a Principal at the Skoll Foundation, she works directly with Skoll Award Social Entrepreneurs, collaborating on their path toward lasting social change. She joined the Skoll Foundation as Principal in January 2016 from Samahope a non-profit organisation she co-founded in 2012 where she also served as Managing Director. Samahope is a global organisation that connected donors with local medical providers focused on maternal and child health through a trusted technology platform. Samahope built the capacity of these providers, enabling access to care to over 17,000 patients in need. At the end of 2015, Samahope joined forces with CaringCrowd.org, a new global health crowdfunding platform powered by Johnson & Johnson.
Prior to her Samahope experience, Shivani was on the Due Diligence Committee at Beyond Capital Fund where she spent two years sourcing and evaluating potential investments for the impact investment fund for social entrepreneurs in East Africa and India. Shivani also served as an Independent Advisor in Global Market Development at the Grameen Foundation where she developed the business plan and go-to-market strategy for AppLab initiative and a suite of inclusive business-targeted mobile applications and tools (e.g., data collection, field force management) Prior to becoming a social entrepreneur and advisor Shivani was a Mckinsey strategy consultant and a Microsoft product manager.
Shivani studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (B.S.) and Cognitive Science (B.A.) at the University of California Berkeley. She also obtained an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
